SHOULD COMPUTERS REPLACE TEACHERS?

Many techno-savvies want to replace teachers with computers. They think computers can teach students better than teachers. Photo: katerina-holmes

With the development of technology now many intelligent people have started suggesting that computers can teach students better than teachers. Well, this is really a very interesting subject to talk about but the question is, is it really possible for computers to replace teachers? This can be a very tricky question, isn’t it?

Without a doubt, I agree with the amazing capacity of computers. Computer technology has become imperative today than ever before. Because of their usefulness, they have become an inseparable part of modern technology. So, it should not be an exaggeration if I say that modern technology is incomplete without computers.

Computers technology plays a pivotal role in many fields. In the past, those activities which were impossible now have become possible and its credit goes to none other than computer technology.

Nowadays computer technology is being used almost in every sector of development. Can we imagine a world without computers? Of course not. It is definitely not possible. And this is the reason I would like to appreciate the wonderful power of computers.

However, this does not mean that computers are so smart that they should substitute teachers. Without any doubt, computers play an important role to bring development to the world. But this does not mean that computers can replace teachers.

It is my strong opinion that the teacher’s role can’t be taken over by the use of computers. No matter how intelligent computers maybe but we should not forget one thing that they are programmed by intelligent human minds and this fact can’t be ignored. Thus, the human mind is therefore much better than the mind of computers.

There are several limitations associated with computers. One such limitation is that computers do not have their own intelligence---they are equipped with artificial intelligence. A teacher uses his/her own intelligence to shape a student’s mind, according to the need of the hour. However, a computer can’t do such things.

On top, let's not forget that computers are machines and they don't have any emotion but a teacher is an emotional being. That’s why sometimes a teacher does play the role of a guardian and provides emotional support to his/her students. Can we imagine anything like this from a computer? Of course not.

No doubt, computers are the lifeblood of modern development. They play an indispensable role in the development of the world economy. Both computers and teachers play their roles distinctly. If the purpose of computers and teachers is to impart good education to students then why there is a need for a debate whether computers should replace teachers or not. I would like to conclude by saying with this that both computers and teachers must work in tandem to benefit the students.
