HE WAS ALONE IN THE CROWD

Photo: Collaborative Divorce Resolutions By SURAJ GAUTAM Ramesh is a young boy who studies in grade 10 in Pokhara. He is currently preparing for his final examination. He is staying in school hostel, because it is compulsory for grade 10 students and he was not happy. Ramesh always missed his parents.  He wished as if everyday would be Saturday so that he could meet his parents. Since morning, Ramesh is very happy, because it's a Saturday. All students were busy playing games but he was waiting for his parents.  After spending about five hours, he returned to his room.. but they did not turn up. He was very sad and angry with them. Once again, after a week, Ramesh was waiting for his parents. How could he not be on tears when seeing other parents meeting with their children? He again went to his room with sank heart without eating anything. However, Ramesh was lucky to have a very good friend in hostel, who could understand him well. He celebrated many

GEORGE JOHN, POKHARA AND PN CAMPUS

Image
The present article is based on my talks with Sir George John on different occasions. By LB THAPA George John needs no introduction…he has become a household name in Pokhara. He is so much venerable, adored and eulogized that many contemporaries of his time might envy him. But George John is unbelievably a very simple and unassuming person of wonderful character. In a true sense, he is a jaded pearl of Pokhara. George John had his graduation from Bible College, India. Out of curiosity, he had visited Nepal and stayed in Kathmandu for some time. His real intention was to visit Kathmandu as a tourist and return to India. However, later he changed his mind and decided to stay in Nepal. In the mean time, he joined Shanker Dev campus to study MA English literature. When he first arrived in Nepal in 1950, he was a 16-year-old boy. He spent nearly four years in teaching and studying in Kathmandu. After then he shifted to Pokhara. He fell in love with Pokhara at first sight.

BUNGEE JUMPING: TEST THE LIMIT OF YOUR COURAGE

A small crowd of onlookers set their eyes on the Bjungee Jumper. Photo: LB Thapa By LB THAPA (This article was originally published in The Rising Nepal) Pokhara has occupied a distinct place for adventure tourism in Nepal. Tourists of all ages and interests can try an adventure that is perfectly suitable for them. Micro-light flights, Paragliding, mountain biking, caving, boating, rafting, trekking, Zip Flying and now bungee jumping is a newly added adventure in the repertoire of adventure tourism in Pokhara. Normally a bungee jumping is made from a tall, metallic structure that is several meters high from the ground. However, many daredevils do not hesitate even to make a free fall from flying hot balloons, helicopters, tall buildings, and suspension bridges. Without doubt, today bungee jumping has become one of the most daring sports for the people who want to test the limit of their courage. Bungee Jumping is located at Hemja near the Tibetan Camp. A 32-meter ste

CHITWAN NATIONAL PARK LOOKS FOR BETTER DAYS

Never miss an opportunity to have an elephant ride in Chitwan National Park. Photo: The Writer's Dane By LB THAPA , in Chitwan (This article was originally published in The Rising Nepal) My recent itinerary was a tour from Pokhara to Lumbini and Chitwan National Park on motorbike. After having spent two days in Lumbini, I directly headed to Chitwan National Park. From Bhairawa I took a shortcut route to catch the main highway to reach Chitwan National Park. After a bumpy motorbike riding from Pokhara to Butwal, a smooth ride from Butwal up to Chitwan National Park was a pleasant experience. Right before entering Chitwan National Park, there was a large hoarding board with some information about the Park. At the bottom of the board, there was a large arrow showing the way to Chitwan National Park. Within a few minutes, I found myself in Sauraha. I lodged at a hotel from where I could see a beautiful view of the Rapti River. The Sun was setting and its glow appeared ser

BENI BAZAAR: THE GATEWAY TO THE LEADING TREKKING DESTINATIONS

A panoramic view of Beni Bazaar. Photo: LB Thapa  By LB THAPA , in Beni (This article was originally published in The Rising Nepal) Our group of cyclists wanted to utilize a few days holiday on Tihar (Dipawali). Since we did not have more days at our disposal, we wanted to go to a short destination. After much discussion we chose two destinations Lumbini and Beni . Eventually we unanimously chose Beni. We gave up the idea of going to Lumbini; it was because of its distance. A tour to Lumbini was simply not possible in four days. Lumbini was left for the next visit. The distance of Beni from Pokhara is 91km. It means we had to cycle 182km in total…quite a distance on bicycle…isn’t it?   We reached Naudanda after one and half hour’s regular cycling from Pokhara. When we arrived at Naudanda, it was already 12 o’clock in noon. In fact we had set out at 6 o’clock in the morning but the president of Cycle City Pokhara, Jitendra Man Shakya, did organize a welcome programme for
