SOCIAL DISTANCE, A SHORT STORY

Image
At that very moment, Bhim Bahadur remembered his wife and his eyes welled up in tears. However, his dog Kalu was still beside him. Medical staff had to struggle to keep Kalu away from Bhim Bahadur. Even Bhim Bahadur asked Kalu several times to leave him but Kalu remained adamant. He wanted to go with Bhim Bahadur in the ambulance. When the ambulance moved away, Kalu was seen following the ambulance until it disappeared from his sight. The recent pandemic has also brought social distance into relationships. It seems that no one is safe from the virus and everyone is compelled to live under constant fear, doubt and uncertainty.   Bhim Bahadur’s family lives in Lalitpur and they cannot feel safe from the menace either. Following the orders issued by the government, they are also living in lockdown, and

Photos and video: Dainik Bhaskar What is the message that every parent must learn from this incident? By LB THAPA Today I’m going to write a few words, well sad words, about an incident that had taken place in Ujjain, India. According to the news published in Dainik Bhaskar, a Hindi language national daily of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a lovebird couple has committed suicide after consuming poison. The boy Nitin Laut, 20, was working at RD Gardi hospital and the girl Priyansi Chandel was only a 16-year-old minor girl. Both of them were in love for the last one and half years.  The parents of both of the families did not like their relationship and they had strictly warned them for breaking all their associations. It is said that they continued their relationship despite their parents’ warnings.  The boy takes a final shot of a cigarette bef

THE QUESTION OF ARTIST’S CREATIVITY AND FREEDOM

Image
Should artists get complete freedom to express their creativity or not? This has become the subject of debate in recent times? Photo: LB Thapa By HARSIKA DEV It is said that artists must get complete freedom to express their ideas in their own way and there should not be government restrictions on them.   Creative artists enrich society by doing the most creative activities. For their hard work and perseverance, they are respected in society, and sometimes their hard work is appreciated with awards and prizes. However, some artists misuse their talents for the wrong purposes. Let’s take the example of film artists. Most of them serve violence and vulgarity to society. Their films are corrupting most of our youngsters and many others.   Today’s generation is crazy about film artists. They follow film celebrities like anything. Many artists are even not aware of what negative impact their vulgar films can leave on the tender minds of children. Without any doubt, today’s society has bec

ALWAR: THE CROWN OF RAJASTHAN

A view of Bala Quila as seen from Vinay Vilas Mahal. Photo: LB Thapa By LB THAPA , in Alwar, Rajasthan ,   My recent foray into traveling to a historical place took me to Alwar, Rajasthan. I chose to visit Alwar for one obvious reason and it was because my younger brother Lt. Colonel Sudhir Thapa was posted to Alwar, Rajasthan. He was the command in charge of the Alwar army cantonment. How I could miss such an opportunity!                    Alwar has successfully preserved its rich history, culture and tradition that is now very rare in the world. Literally speaking I was much excited to visit Alwar and see those fabulous places of historical significance. I boarded Spicejet's afternoon flight and landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport at about 2pm. I saw an army man stood at the lounge with a placard of my name. I waved my hands towards him and he reciprocated with the sense of satisfaction.  I walked out of the main gate with two heavy bags, but one

SHOVA KC: FOLLOWING THE HERD IS A SURE WAY TO MEDIOCRITY

Shova KC is the managing director of Silk International college, Pokhara. Photo: LB Thapa By LB THAPA Women empowerment has become a buzzword today. There are several NGOs, INGOs, and of course many political leaders who never tired of talking about woman empowerment. But a real question is how many of them are true to their intentions. This is a question worth pondering. These organizations may be well equipped with the resources but despite that their achievements are below expectation.   Meanwhile, there are still some people who are engaged in philanthropic activities but believe in no gimmicks. If one is determined with selfless service then it is not necessary that one should have a huge amount of money. The 'willingness' to do something good is more important in life. Shova KC is a young girl, who believes in women's power. She works sincerely with the sole intention of making young girls capable to stand on their own feet, and help them lead the dign

She started her professional career a few years, but success started following her. The windows of opportunities opened up for her and she truly deserves more. My interest in dance and acting had drawn my parents' attention, and then I was merely a tiny toddler," revealed Urmila as a flicker of a smile went across her face. Urmila did start taking part in local dance competitions ever since she was a 10-year old girl.
