What is the message that every parent must learn from this incident?

By LB THAPA

Today I’m going to write a few words, well sad words, about an incident that had taken place in Ujjain, India. According to the news published in Dainik Bhaskar, a Hindi language national daily of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, a lovebird couple has committed suicide after consuming poison.

The boy Nitin Laut, 20, was working at RD Gardi hospital and the girl Priyansi Chandel was only a 16-year-old minor girl. Both of them were in love for the last one and half years.

The parents of both of the families did not like their relationship and they had strictly warned them for breaking all their associations. It is said that they continued their relationship despite their parents’ warnings.

The boy takes a final shot of a cigarette before gulping down the glass of poison.

When Nitin and Priyansi found it impossible to convince their parents about their marriage, they were deeply frustrated. The lovebird couple eventually decided to end their lives by consuming poison as a last resort. Well, this is the whole incident.

This incident has raised some pertinent questions before us. Let’s analyze them in the light of the day.

Was it the right decision they had taken to end their lives?

Its answer is a big NO. Committing suicide cannot be justified in any manner. Only weak and cowards take such an extreme action.

Did they have other possible ways to avoid suicide?

Why not? They had hundreds of ways to avoid suicide---if they really wanted. For instance, they could have fled their city to a remote town where no one knew them. India is such a large country and it has such a massive population that they could have lived a decent life and no one could ever get a clue of their existence.

Should their parents have accepted them?

Yes, they should have accepted them, because they were in love for over one and half years. Moreover, their parents had made all possible efforts to separate them but they could not separate them from each other. In a situation like this, their parents must have allowed them to get married. Well, after marriage they could have lived separately if their parents might have refused to accept them.

Priyansi Chandel puts the poison in both of the glasses in equal amounts.

Do you think the boy and the girl really loved each other or what?

Alright, my view is that the boy and the girl did not love each other at all. Ok, you can write your opinion. But, let me tell you why actually both of them did not love each other at all. I can tell you this because if you really love someone then you have to protect him or her even by sacrificing your own life…am I right? How you can see someone you love dying in front of your eyes. No way. If you can see your beloved dying in front of your eyes then definitely you don't love your beloved.

Who is guilty of the crime of committing suicide: boy or girl?

My first answer is both of them are guilty. But if you ask me who is even guiltier then of course the boy. Because the girl was a minor, she was just a 16-year innocent girl. Because of her age, she could be emotionally swayed but the boy was a mature man…he was a 20-year-old man. It was his moral duty to guide the girl to take the right action without being emotional. But what he did instead, he encouraged the girl to take such extreme action as if they did not have any other options left before them.

What should parents learn from this incident?

There is one message, a very big message for all parents to learn. First thing first, all parents must start communicating with their children as soon as they enter their teenage. They should tell their children that making friends is no problem but falling in love can be disastrous for their careers. They should also tell them how falling in love can spoil their studies and their relationship with their parents.

Alright my dear readers, this much for today. Have a good day, stay safe and be happy. God bless all of you.

With all my good intent I would like to show this video for the information purpose. Especially to all the parents who have grown-up children at home. They should watch it and ask their children to watch it and learn a big lesson of life...never make such a mistake in life.
