Today yours truly is going to write about a man who is 23-year old, but he looks like a 1-year old baby. How this is possible! To know all this and many more you should read the whole story.
People find it uncomfortable to call him a baby or a man. If you look at him, he is just a year old baby, not more than that. The child weighs only 4.98 kg. However, by age, the baby is now 23-year old. So, is he a baby or a man? I leave it to you to decide. Well, let me tell you that the name of the baby is Manpreet Sigh and he is from Manar, Punjab, India.
Manpreet Singh was born in a small village in Punjab, India in 1995. The parents’ happiness knew no bounds when they held the baby in their arms for the first time. The baby looked very healthy, charming, and frolic. Moreover, he exhibited all normal physical characteristics like any normal baby.
For a year around the baby grew in a quite normal manner. Thereafter something very strange happened with the baby and that was the major cause of worry for the parents. The baby stopped growing at all. There was a complete full stop in the growth of the baby. Today the baby has become 23-year old but he is still a year old baby. His mental aptitude and physical features are those of a 1-year old baby.
Manpreet’s parents took the baby to different hospitals and when nothing worked, they received Shamanic treatment for the baby, but to no avail. After having gone through some medical examinations, doctors said the baby suffered from a rare genetic condition. However, doctors have also suggested that more examinations are necessary to reach a definite conclusion.
All the activities of Manpreet are those of a 1-year old child, but the fact is Manpreet is now 23-year old and he needs all the care like a 1-year old baby. At present, the baby is under the care of his uncle Karanvir Singh and aunt Lakhwinder Kaur, who lives in Hisar, Punjab.
“We took the baby to several doctors but they were clueless. We spent money as much as we could. Now we don’t have enough money for his treatment. Some doctors say it was all due to hormone imbalance and that require a lot of examinations,” says Manpreet’s uncle.
It is believed that Manpreet might be suffering from Laron Syndrome. This is a rare genetic condition. However, to confirm his medical condition further tests are required which might cost around one million rupees. This is such a big amount that Manpreet’s uncle and aunt can never afford.
It is learned that the patients with Laron Syndrome are unable to produce Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1). This hormone stimulates the cell to grow and divide to form new cells. Since Manpreet’s uncle and aunt cannot afford expensive medical treatment, they expect some financial help from the government.
Manpreet is not the only child in the family. He has a younger sister Jaspreet and a younger brother Mangaldeep. Both of them have reached their teenage and they are physically and mentally fit and fine. ‘The parents of Manpreet were much worried of other kids, but when they grew in a normal way this gave enormous satisfaction to them’ said Karanbir Singh.
Now Manpreet lives with his uncle and aunt in Hisar, but Manpreet’s parents live in Mansa, which is 112 km away from Hisar. Manpreet’s uncle and aunt decided to bring the kid to their home, as the baby was not being able to receive proper care in Mansa.
Manpreet behaves like a 1-year old baby. He utters words like other babies of his age, which cannot be understood. Most of the time the baby makes signs to communicate. He can speak a few words but is unable to communicate. Except for physical growth, otherwise, Manpreet is a charming baby who loves to play with other kids.
“Manpreet is a fun-loving child. He loves to play with his favorite toys and likes the company of his friends. We love the baby but the only worry is that though 23-year old, he is only a 1-year old baby”, said Karanvir Singh, Manpreet’s uncle.
Manpreet’s parents Jagtar Singh and mother Manjeet Kaur had taken the baby to their home at Mansa several times. However, every time the baby would stop eating food and talking with the people there. When the baby was brought back to Hisar, he started eating food and playing with his friends. This is an indication that the baby loves his uncle and aunt more than the baby loves his own parents.
In recent times, a group of youths of Hisar did start a fund-collecting campaign. They call it GoFundMe campaign. They want to use the fund for the treatment of Manpreet. However, this fund will not be sufficient for Manpreet’s treatment. Proper treatment of Manpreet is only possible if an NGO, INGO, or government itself takes an initiation.
Some people might think that Manpreet is the only person suffering from such an illness. The answer is no there are other people as well who lived with a similar illness.
An American girl named Brooke Greenberg lived up to the age of 20, but her physical and mental growth had stopped after six months of her age. She died at the age of 20.
Another case is from Brazil. Maria
Odet Nascimento is now 37, but she looks like a 9 to 10 years child. A medical
team of the Faculty of Medicine Ceara University holds an opinion that Maria
must have suffered from a severe thyroid hormone deficiency. You can watch this
video to see his present physical condition.LB Thapa at the Ludhiana railway station, Punjab, India.
