GOOD NEWS VERSUS BAD NEWS
We may speak about good news but the truth is otherwise...perhaps we are inclined to bad news more than good news. Photo: daria-obymaha |
It is often said that "Good news is bad news". It is because without bad news newspapers do not sell. Sometime in the past, a radio station once decided to present the only good news. Soon the radio station found that it had gone out of business for lack of listeners. Bad news on the other hand always draws more readers than good news. We have become addicted to bad news and today’s media houses are well aware of this.
Why bad news does occupy more spaces of newspapers and magazines than good news. This should be understood. I believe that these media houses want to increase readerships and for that negative news is more powerful than good news. Negative news draws more readers and a profit margin can be increased.
Another factor is that most of the time news editors and publishers come under political pressures and distort facts and mislead the public. To put it another way, media houses, to a large extent, are controlled by powerful political parties and business tycoons.
Moreover,
living in the information era, people are overwhelmed excessive amount of news,
including good and bad news, from multiple media. Today's coverage and press
might sometimes be less trustworthy mainly because it often exaggerates the
level of the real information in order to boost the attention of the desired
audiences. Furthermore, some media companies use the stories of people's
private life, seductive images, and violet or obscene content to appeal to
viewers. However, the role of new media in reporting good news, such as
someone's achievement and human stories should be acknowledged.
I
would like to conclude my words by saying that today's news and information on
media are by and large influenced by the spirit of increasing profits and
facilitating some political parties.
Thus,
we the readers of newspapers or watching the news on TV channels must be wise
enough not to come under the influence of today’s media.
