PK, RELIGION AND REALITY

He is compelled to learn the ways of the world to survive and in doing so, encounters a range of competing religious beliefs and traditions that mark his newfound world. This scenario is actually portrayed in the recently released Amir Khan Starrer movie “PK” directed by Rajkumar Hirani who has a reputation for making excellent movies. The movie raises some plausible questions on ‘religion’ which holds sway over the lives of millions of people in India. The centrality of religion in people’s lives is not characteristic of Indian societies only. Rather, this is common to all societies in varying extents across the world.
