POKHARELI TAEKWONDO TEAM LEAVES TO HONGKONG TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 27th ASIAN CITIES TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP-2023

Four Pokhareli taekwondo players Rekhmaya Gurung, Pratikshya Gurung, Deepisha Gurung, and Arik Rana are leaving today for Hong Kong to participate in the 27th Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship to be held from March 4 to March 5, 2023.

Four taekwondo players of Absolute Taekwondo Dojang will participate in the 27th Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship. The championship will be held from March 4 to March 5 in Jordan city, Hong Kong. 

The group of four Taekwondo players is led by Rekhmaya Gurung who is also the head coach at Absolute Taekwondo Dojang, Pokhara. Rekhmaya Gurung will participate in Poomsae in the 30-40 years age category. And Deepisha Gurung will participate in Poomsae in the 19-30 age category. Similarly, Arik Rana will participate in Poomsae under 12 years age category. 

However, Pratikshya Rana, under 12 years of weight category, will be the only taekwondo contestant in the team who will participate in both of the categories: Poomsae and Kyorugi. Speaking with this scribe, Rekhmaya Gurung, the head coach at Absolute Taekwondo Dojang and a team member, said, “I am extremely optimistic about the scintillating performance. Due to serious preparation, our confidence level is high. We look forward to winning a couple of medals including gold medals. Moreover, I pin high hope on Pratikshya Rana who is one of the best players in the team”. 

The taekwondo team members were congratulated amid a program conducted yesterday. Speaking at the program Kumar Gurung, president of the Kaski District Taekwondo Association said that he was glad to learn that four of the promising taekwondo players of Absolute Taekwondo Dojang would represent Pokhara in the international tournament. He also wished them good luck and success for winning medals and making Pokhara proud.  

Kul Chandra Sharma, General Secretary of Gandaki Province Taekwondo Association, said, “Pokhara is not only known for natural beauty but also for sporting activities. And today four Pokhareli taekwondo players are representing the country. This is a proud moment for every Pokhareli. We wish them all the success in their endeavors”. 

Balaram Lama, a senior taekwondo coach at the Western Region Development Committee was also present at the program.
