KASKI TAEKWONDO PLAYERS SHINE WITH MEDALS IN THE 27TH ASIAN CITIES TAEKWONDO CHAMPIONSHIP-2023

 Nepal Taekwondo Team finishes runner-up in the international Taekwondo championship held in Hong Kong.

The Nepal Taekwondo team has stunned everyone with its scintillating performance in the 27th Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship and finished the tournament as the runner-up. Four members of Kaski Taekwondo players had also been part of the Nepali team. The two days championship was held from March 4 to 5. The championship was participated by 9 countries.  

The championship was concluded on 5th March 2023 amid a colorful program to show a thankful gesture for all the participants from different countries. 

In the Poomsae category, Pokhareli taekwondo player Rekhmaya Gurung, head coach at Absolute Taekwondo Dojang, won a bronze medal under the 31-40 years age category. Similarly, Arik Rana did also bag a bronze medal under the 10-11 years age category. 

Likewise, in the Kyorugi (sparring) category, Priya Pun won a Silver medal in the junior female under 42kg. Bimal Rokaya, Justin Gurung, Jenish Gurung, and Pradip Kadel gave their best and each one of them won silver medals in the 63kg, 54kg, 73kg, and 87kg weight categories. 

However, Pradeep Giri and Om Prakash Khadka had to satisfy with a bronze medal each. Pradeep Giri won the medal in the senior male over 87kg group. Whereas Om Prakash Khadka won the medal in the senior male category. 

Speaking with this scribe on phone, Rekhmaya Gurung, head coach at Absolute Taekwondo Dojang and also one of the participants of the tournament, said, “Overall, I am satisfied with the performance of the Kaski team in general and Nepal team in particular. It is a matter of great pride for Nepal that the Nepali taekwondo team emerged as the runner-up in the 27th Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship. Reaching this level of success is by no means an easy task. But our combined efforts made it all possible”. 

The winning Kaski taekwondo team has planned to return to Nepal on 9th March 2023. In the meantime, Kul Chandra Sharma, General Secretary of Gandaki Province Taekwondo Association, and Balaram Lama, a senior taekwondo coach at the Western Region Development Committee, extended their congratulations on winning medals for the Kaski and of course for the country.
