The major Nepali leaders have expressed commitment to address India’s interests in Nepal, including not signing a special deal with China

By PR PRADHAN
Reports state that the government has submitted a political roadmap to Delhi after a consent from the leaders of three major parties – NC, UML and UCPNM – to end the present blockade. That roadmap includes the amendment of the constitution by making it favourable for India for micro-management in Nepali political and administrative affairs. According to that roadmap, proportional and inclusive representative of the Madheshi (those migrated Indian citizens to Nepal) will be secured in all the government organs; electoral constituencies will be managed on the basis of population and on the issue of citizenship to the migrated people, it has been decided to resolve the problem amicably through talks with the leaders of the Madheshi Front in agitation. Furthermore, the boundaries of the Madhesh provinces will be set by a high-level mechanism represented by the head of the major political parties NC, UML, UCPNM and Madheshi parties within 90 days.

Likewise, the leaders have expressed commitment to address India’s interests in Nepal, including not signing a special deal with China. It has already been more than two weeks since the government had handed over the roadmap to Delhi, yet the blockade has not been lifted. According to sources, Delhi is waiting for the fulfillment of the commitments made by our political leaders in the past. It is said that our leaders are delaying on the part of implementation of that roadmap from which Delhi has again become suspicious. It is believed that the leaders have sent such a roadmap from which sooner or later Nepal will remain under the security umbrella of India. Sovereign and independent Nepal’s new identity will be an India protected nation. Looking after the points of agreement, it can be said that the future of Nepal will be ruled by the Madheshi leaders as majority of the representatives in the federal parliament will be the Madheshis and the hill people will remain in minority. Also, the entire tarai districts will be included in the two provinces in tarai, which will be in the hands of India in fulfilling Indian interests.

The government, along with the promulgation of the constitution, has fallen into such a serious crisis that there is no outlet to move forward. If the government will implement the agreement, it will be counter-productive for the parties as well as for the nation. On the other hand, if the government will deny in fulfilling the commitment, the tarai unrest will become further destructive and bloody. Furthermore, splinter groups in the tarai region such as CK Raut will appear with strength. The country will become the victim of anarchism and there are no guts with the government to control the situation.

In conclusion, it can be said that the political leaders of the days have followed this unfortunate path due to their visionless acts and the country is now suffering due to their own acts. In the name of institutionalization of federal republic secular state, the political parties are pushing the country towards the path of ending the sovereign and independent existence of the nation. This scribe has been time and again writing that if the political leaders of the day want peace, prosperity, stability in the country, immediately, they should show the courage for returning to the 1990 constitution but the leaders are walking towards the path full of bloodbath, internal dispute and disintegration of the nation that our glorious ancestors had created.
